Taiwan #1

So I made it to Taiwan...

It is not what I expected at all.

It is much cleaner, there is a lot more English, and the people are a lot more friendly than I had expected. Traveling with a surfboard is harder than I ever imagined, getting denied on trains and hesitant cab drivers. Taipei was not as hot as I thought, and I hung out with my friends a lot.

After one night in the city, filled with beer, meat on a stick and amazing dumplings the four of us head to a small town called Daxi, with a population of 500 people. There is a popular surf break here called honeymoon bay, I didn't find any waves, but a lot of these washed up on the beach.

Spent one night here, hiked to a place called Eagle Rock that overlooks the town, relaxed in our own house on the beach, then trains even more south to a town called Donghe. Long ride, but arrived to our hosts waiting to drive us from the train station 30 kms away. We are now staying in a super laid back hostel named Taitung Surf Club.

The area is much more lush, humid and hot.

We have been surfing a few times now, waves have been mediocre at best, but at least the water is warm. We added another friend to our crew last night, and washed that down with a bunch more beer and local drinking games. The best part of Donghe so far has been the monkeys, I sure do love monkeys.

Keep Smiling...

A Long Time Comin'

I've been meaning to start one of these for about....oh two years now.

Finally got around to it a couple days before I set off to Asia for a surf/photo trip. So there will be some cool stuff coming up on here over the next few months. Be sure to check back every once and a while...

Might as well try and get the hang of this before I go.

Here's a picture of my parents new pup Tess:

After this it will be tropical beaches, promise...
